General Practice Nurse - The Practice
Hours: Part-Time or Full-Time (flexible working considered)
Salary: Up to £45,000 per annum (dependent on experience)
Location: Ashford, Kent
Reporting to: Nursing Team Lead & Practice Manager
The Practice is a friendly, well-established surgery committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care. We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated General Practice Nurse to join our supportive multi-disciplinary team. This is an excellent opportunity for a nurse with experience in primary care or someone keen to develop their skills in a varied and rewarding environment.
About the Role
As a General Practice Nurse, you will provide safe, effective, and holistic clinical care within your NMC-registered competencies. You will play a key role in treatment room duties, chronic disease management, and health promotion, supported by ongoing training and professional development.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver evidence-based nursing care within your scope of practice.
- Provide chronic disease management including diabetes, asthma, COPD, CKD, CHD, heart failure, hypertension, hypercholesterolaemia, PVD, and NDH (following training).
- Undertake treatment room tasks such as wound care, immunisations, vaccinations, B12 and hormone injections, contraception support, and menopause care.
- Assist with and prepare for minor surgery.
- Carry out compression bandaging, Doppler studies, and suture/clip removal.
- Provide lifestyle advice and make referrals where appropriate.
- Perform venepuncture, ECGs, BP monitoring, urinalysis, and other HCA duties when required.
- Handle specimens safely, maintain clean clinical areas, and follow infection prevention and control policies.
- Maintain accurate clinical records and uphold strict confidentiality at all times.
Training & Professional Development
- Annual appraisal and personalised CPD planning.
- Support for additional training and extended clinical skills.
- Opportunities to supervise/assess students (where competent).
- Quarterly PCN clinical supervision.
Working Relationships
You will work closely with the Nursing Team, GPs, HCAs, administrative colleagues, dispensary staff, and the wider MDT, as well as liaising with secondary care and participating in relevant meetings.
About You
- NMC-registered nurse with up-to-date clinical skills.
- Experience in general practice or a willingness to learn.
- Able to work independently and collaboratively.
- Excellent communication skills with a compassionate, patient-centred approach.
- Committed to ongoing CPD and maintaining high standards of care.
