Practice Nurse

Location: Plymouth, UK
Salary: Up to £47,000 (FTE)
Population: 12,000 patients
Hours: Part-Time/Full-Time

Role Overview

An experienced Practice Nurse role involving:

  • Comprehensive primary care nursing duties - including cervical screening, baby and adult immunisations, and chronic disease management.
  • Participation in health promotion and preventative care initiatives.
  • Use of clinical systems for patient recalls, screening, and documentation.
  • Opportunity to work within a training practice, supporting student nurses, GP trainees, paramedics, and physiotherapists.

Main Duties

  • Lead or assist in health screening and promotion clinics.
  • Manage nursing care for chronic conditions (e.g., Diabetes, COPD, Hypertension, Asthma).
  • Deliver specialist care in infection prevention, contraception, cervical cytology, and immunisations.
  • Conduct routine treatments: wound care, ECGs, phlebotomy, and general assessments.
  • Support review and development of clinical policies and procedures.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Registered Nurse (NMC, UK)
  • Minimum 2 years post-registration
  • Excellent communication, IT, and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work autonomously and within a team
  • Knowledge of clinical procedures and policy adherence

Desirable

  • Experience in General Practice
  • Cervical cytology and immunisation training (adult & child)
  • Wound care and chronic disease management (esp. Diabetes)
  • Interest or qualification in Diabetes (Level 6 or 7)
  • Familiarity with SystmOne and clinical governance
